8 Best Vegan Raw/Superfood Suppliers

The raw food movement goes from strength to strength in the UK as more and more people take the leap from cooked to raw. For many this is the next step on from going vegan, and although the juries out on the benefits of adopting a 100% raw lifestyle, there's no doubting the benefits of introducing more raw and living foods into our diets, especially when it comes to fats, which are always best raw and never that clever when cooked or processed. There are many guides to getting the best from the Raw Food Lifestyle including loads of info online through to personal raw lifestyle coaches.

  • Total Raw Food: Jess Michael is the driving force behind Total Raw Food, and her own personal story is an excellent motivation for adopting the principles of a raw lifestyle, as she battled against M.E. Jess and her partner now run Total Raw Food and have not only their own range of raw chocolate out, but a host of other superfoods, equipment and books available from their online shop. This in addition to Raw Lifestyle sessions and coaching from Jess. See here for more info http://www.totalrawfood.com/
  • Raw Chocolate Company: This is a brilliant starter point for anyone curious about the raw lifestyle. A natty little website which is vibrant, clear and easy to navigate with plenty of info about the benefits of the raw lifestyle, and in particular their passion - raw chocolate. Some really nice products are available, some brilliant flavours including a Caramac - style bar with is awesome (the Vanoffe). All are dairy, sugar and gluten free. See http://www.therawchocolatecompany.com/
  • Fresh Network: The original raw website and community going back to the 90's, started by the wonderful Karen Knowler and now continued by Cary of Kiki's fame and his team, with loads of products, equipment, superfoods, ideas and inspiration for all things living and raw. Publishes raw magazine Get Fresh 4 times a year and also organising the Fresh Festival which usually has all the USA raw luminaries over for talks, demos and food prep classes. See http://www.fresh-network.com/
  • Detox Your World: Big faves with many, brilliant online shop plus suppliers to the trade for bulk Maca powder, Goji berries, Cacao nibs and the like. Family firm with the dazzling Shazzie leading the line with admirable support from Mum Denise and big sister Jennie, not to mention 'token Male and pin up' Bryan, who is of course 'the Daddy'. We really like this firm and they are warm, rich and imaginative when it comes to presenting the best of the raw faves and staples, with a guaranteed quality and freshness for all their many products. You Beauties.. http://www.detoxyourworld.com/
  • Raw Living: Recently relaunched website with loads of kit on it including the brilliant 'Eat Smart, Eat Raw', a new book by Kate Wood who is the driving force behind the company. Alongside her other book 'Raw Living' she has several hundred raw recipes available, and having been raw for about 15 years now, as well as raising 3 boys on a raw diet, she is something of a living expert! Loads of products too including lots of raw chocolate and superfoods, plus events, talks and even appearances on telly (channnel 4, no less) for 2008. For more info see www.rawliving.co.uk Shout out too to Chris from Raw Living for all his hard work and contribution behind the scenes!
  • Natural Balance: Really excellent range of raw snack bars from this lively bunch, including both the Nak'd and Trek bars. Chunky, filling, chewy, substantial, well flavoured, free from sugar, raw, vegan, tasty - the business. Loads of fans nationwide, with an American influence when it comes to flaves and choices - check out the Apple Pie, Banana Bread, Cocoa Loco and Berry Cheeky varieties, as well as the Peanut and Oat and Cocoa Brownie Trek bars. http://www.naturalbalancefoods.co.uk/
  • Creative Nature: These guys sound like they used to be Club promoters and DJ's in a former lifetime, and certainly their range of raw foods is as exciting as any Ibiza nite out imaginable. Better than a David Morales Foam party and more exciting than an original Charlie Chester/Dave Beer collaboration, more sublime than an Oakey remix, more dynamic than a Café Del Mar sunset session - the Creative Nature range is truly outstanding. Their most imaginative product has to be the Hunza Apricot kernels from North Pakistan which are quite extraordinary, and their packaging is worthy of an award itself. http://www.creative-nature.co.uk/
  • Yaoh: Yaoh have been around a few decades now in one form or other, but it is in the last few years of the Naughties that this Bristol Based firm has risen to the top of the tree as its specialist product hemp becomes a mainstream lifestyle choice for a growing army of discerning individuals. Quite simply the hemp seed is the prince of superfoods, and Yaoh provides the best in hemp oil, dehulled hemp seeds, and hemp protein powder -all massive contributions to the raw lifestyle. Also organisers of the Bristol Vegan Fayre, and yes indeed, behind these very awards. See http://www.yaoh.co.uk/
