8 Best Vegan Publications

There are some stunning publications in this section - covering every different aspect of the vegan lifestyle imaginable. The huge rise in internet use has not deterred from the quality and abundance of excellent magazines, especially form the major campaigners groups. Indeed, it has added to it. And now we have our first veggie TV internet station too!

  1. The Vegan: This quarterly publication from the Vegan Society has been the essential vegan publication for years, and today holds it's own amongst many as the foremost for information about the vegan lifestyle. The magazine focuses mainly on the achievements of others which is always refreshing, although the Winter issue of 2007 broke with tradition and carried a 2 page feature on the marvellous people who actually work for the Society, which was equally refreshing. Long may this particular vessel for the vegan lifestyle continue to flourish. www.vegansociety.com
  1. VegNews: This is a USA publication so may well be unknown to many in the UK and beyond, it is a superb read and has excellent features as well as a really good website. The UK is turning veggie faster than any other nation anywhere, and it has to be said that just like in the football the Shermans do have some catching up to do when it comes to eating vegan, apparently New York has superb vegan options though, and just like Tim Howard the supreme Everton and USA keeper, VegNews has a worthy place amongst the World's best vegan publications www.vegnews.com
  1. Get Fresh: Brilliant quarterly raw lifestyle magazine oozing with passion and a vibrancy that reflects the best of the worlds liveliest lifestyle - the Raw Food Vegan Lifestyle. Editor Sarah Best consistently lives up to her name as issue after issue breaks new ground in this rapidly developing journey of discovery into the most nutritious options available today. Backed by the Fresh Network, an oasis of wondrous living foods, superfoods and equipment. www.fresh-network.com/getfresh
  1. Outrage: Consistently marvellous quarterly publication from Animal Aid, covering their widespread campaign activities across the UK and beyond. Lively and challenging articles as well as occasionally distressing reports (especially their undercover operations) balanced with positive achievements and successes as the UK's most loved Animal Campaigning group goes about its business quietly and effectively. Always informative, inspirational and interesting. www.animalaid.org.uk
  1. Viva! Life: Viva! have been going 12 years now and grown into Europe's largest vegetarian pressure group, and their publication Viva! Life every 4 months reflects their high profile campaigning activities across the UK and beyond. Thought provoking and challenging articles especially from Co Director Tony Wardle make this an inspirational read for all activists especially, to see what can be achieved when like minded individuals work together for a common goal: www.viva.org.uk/vivalife.html
  1. Lifescape: Monthly glossy that has a genuine veggie/vegan policy amongst its healthy living and lifestyle features. Some excellent writers have flowed through the pages of Lifescape, and its mainstream appeal makes it a fave amongst many, whilst still containing the sort of reviews and interviews that are appealing to veggie/vegans across the globe. Run by a delightful family team headed by Raj and her mum Sri, we are very fond of this publication and are sure it will continue to grow and flourish. Great website too:   www.lifescapemag.com
  2. VeganViews: This is tradition with a capital T. Very inspirational. A quarterly publication stretching to way back in the day, available both in printed format and also online. VeganViews has been running a long time and consistently covers a wide area of vegan issues as well as reviews, letters, news etc. You can subscribe to the printed version, or access online for free, which is very good of them, as well as being more eco friendly! Hope to see this one run and run, we love these small independent publications that are not in the hands of anyone but the writers themselves. Thanks! www.veganviews.org.uk
  3. VeggieVision: VeggieVision has taken the whole vegan lifestyle to another level with the world's first and only online TV station dedicated to the veggie/vegan lifestyle. Must watch mini TV programmes include interviews with various veggie clebs including Jodie Marsh, Benjamin Zeph and Jerome Flynn, as well as cookery demos and roving reports from out and about. Brilliant team behind this one spearheaded by the luxurious and highly adorable Karin Ridgers, the brainchild and innovator of so many vegan initiatives including here latest venture - the UK's first veggie/vegan radio show! (see here for online version -   www.gatewayfm.com/index04.htm ). Added to this numerous events and parties, plus her own veggie newspaper! Quite a stunning contribution towards a cruelty free planet. www.veggievision.co.uk
